Waste Handling

Post  Admin on Sun Aug 29, 2010 10:54 pm

In Ikast/Brande kommune there is recycling stations in close connection to all bigger towns (this principle applies all over Denmark). At the recycle station you can hand in all the waste you can not dispose via the normal household waste handling system.

PLEASE NOTE: You must have a valid yellow card to enter the recycling station. Remember to bring it as it is used to enter the gate

Hereby some of the waste groups that can be handed in. It is strongly recommended to sort the waste from home:
- Paper/newspapers / commercials (must be dry)
- Cardboard paper/boxes
- Glass/Bottles (empty and clean)
- Cans (empty and clean)
- Clothes, shoes
- Garden waste (grass, leaves etc)

Here is a link to the opening hours of the recycle station in Ikast:

Ikast Genbrugsplads

Thank you, this is very helpful.

Two more questions:
- what about the "valuable" plastic garbage? Nearly everything from the supermarket is packed in plastic? Just throw them in the normal garbage?
- and where can we bring old furniture? Like broken chairs? Or where to bring old but still usable shelves, toys, electric appliances (I will check with school first ;-) ?

Thank you for the support.
Cheers, Maren

Plastic waste - can also be and handed in. It must be clean, so if the plastic has been used eg. on meat or other 'wet' food, you should dispose it via the normal house hold waste. Otherwise it is only a question about having a system at home (and a little free space) then you will save money in normal waste handing fee, and naturally ALSO save the envirionment.

Old furniture - can also be handed in at the waste station. 2 options: if the furniture is broken or too old for anyone to use again: There is a special contaciner for that. If the furniture is ok, just old/used, there is a special container for that. This special container will take any house hold furniture, appliance, toy or 'thing' that still works but just is old or not of any use for you any more. This container will be given to charity organisations, and they will sell the items at flea markets.

Any time - Waste handling might not be my core competence, but I do know something about the topic.. study

Hi Helle, that's a very useful information..What kind of garbage should I put into grønt affald, what should put in gråt affald? all "affald" should be classified according to what you said above? one more question: where is the container I can put shoes, furniture, toy, clothes?
