sports in Ikast

Hi all

I have belowed tried to describe som of the sports activities that are available in Ikast. If you are looking for other activities than the ones mentioned below - you are very welcome to contact me and I will try to help. There clubs/activities written in bold text are clubs/activities that I have closer knowledge about from either my children, my husband or my self.

Ikast is in Denmark seen as one of the leading sports cities in the country – especially when you take the size of the city in consideration. I will here try to shortly mention some the sports that are available in the city and web-sites for different sports clubs.

Football
In Ikast there are two football clubs – Ikast KFUM and Ikast FS. Ikast KFUM is located in the south/west part of the city and Ikast FS in the north of the city. In Ikast KFUM (www.ikast-kfum-fodbold.dk) there are teams for boys and girls from the age of 5-6 years old. In Ikast FS (www.ikast-fs.dk) they have teams from the age of 4 years old. For the smaller kids there is not a big different between the two clubs. But for the older children Ikast FS have teams in the best leagues in Denmark. Ikast FS is also one of the founding clubs of FC Midtjylland, which are one of the top clubs in Denmark.

Handball
Also in handball it is the two clubs Ikast KFUM (www.ikastkfum.dk) and Ikast FS. Both clubs have teams for boys and girls from the age of 5 years old. From the age of 14/15 years old the best players from the two clubs plays together on the team – Team Ikast.
Ikast FS is the leading club behind FC Midtjylland Håndbold which have one of the leading women teams in Denmark and Europe.

Volleyball
Volleyball can be played at Ikast KFUM (www.ikastvolley.dk) the club has teams from the age of 6 years old. Training is placed at one of the four schools in Ikast (Østre, Vestre, Nordre and Hyldgård) Training for the youngest children are at Hyldgård in the south part of Ikast.

Gymnastics
You can go to different kinds of gymnastics at ikast gymnastic forening. There are teams for all age groups 2 – 99 years old. For the small children it is together with the parents. There are teams for both boys and girls. There are teams where you dance (show dance, hip/hop, funk) and teams where you use the trampoline and do somersaults and other more acrobatic exercises.

Swimming
You can do swimming at Ikast Svømme klub (www.isk.dk) . The training is at Ikast swimming centre close to ISIB. They have teams for new born babies to senior teams. As swimming is not a high focus at the public schools in Ikast it can be difficult to get into a team for the ages 5-10 years as they very fast get filled up.

Tennis/Badminton
Tennis can be played at Ikast FS tennis in the northern part of the city (www.ikast-fs.dk)
Badminton is also in Ikast FS (www.ifs-badminton.dk)

Horse Riding
There are two horse riding clubs in Ikast – Ikast Rideklub (www.ikastrideklub.dk) and Højris rideklub (www.hjrk.dk). Ikast Rideklub is located in the south / east part of Ikast. Højris is located in east of Ikast.

Golf
There are two golf clubs in Ikast – Ikast golf club (www.ikastgolfklub.dk) and Tullamore golf club (www.tullamore-golf-club.dk)
Ikast Golf club is located in the south/east part of Ikast. There is a 18 hole and 9 hole course. Tullamore golf club is located north of Ikast. Here there is a 9 hole course.

Athletics
Athletics are not available in Ikast but there are clubs in both Herning (www.hgf-am.dk) and Silkeborg (www.sak77.dk) where there are teams for children from the age of 6-7 years old.
